Landfill gas is a natural by-product of the decomposition buried general waste as found at rubbish dump sites whilst biogas is produced by controlled degradation of plant and animal waste products, i.e. contained in a sealed digester tank. Both gases are a complex mix of different gases, comprising mainly of methane (CH4) with the remainder being mostly carbon dioxide (CO2).
