We all know that Oxygen is essential in our waterways and dams. For those of you lucky enough to be a member of a golf club, you have probably seen the dam being aerated to stop the harmful growth algae. If you’re a fish farmer or grow shellfish in tanks, you will know that at various times of the day Oxygen demand can be high so it is essential for your fish/shell fish and your investors that you monitor Dissolved Oxygen.
There are a few methods to do that. The more traditional methods use an electrochemical cell. Electro Chemical Devices (ECD) Dissolved Oxygen electrodes of this style are galvanic cells with a lead anode, silver cathode and either the quick response 2 mil or rugged 5 mil Teflon membrane. The ECD DO electrode is ready to use as received, there are no solutions or membranes to install before the electrode can be used. The membrane is protected by a double tine PEEK body allowing for easy cleaning. Designed for ppm level measurements it is ideal for environmental water measurements and aerobic waste treatment.
For those of us less inclined to regular maintenance, the ECD Triton DO82 Optical Dissolved Oxygen Analyser is a complete solution for long term dissolved oxygen measurements in waste water aeration basins, aquaculture and all types of environmental water. The DO82 optical dissolved oxygen sensor uses fluorescence quenching to determine the oxygen concentration in water. The use of this optical method minimises maintenance, increases reliability and improves the long term accuracy of the measurement in demanding municipal waste water and industrial wastewater applications.
The DO82 Optical Dissolved Oxygen Sensor is unaffected by changes in the flow, pH or conductivity of the sample and there is no need to replace or service membranes, electrolytes or anode/cathode assemblies required for other sensors.
